On February 3, the Demo Day and closing ceremony of the "LeYun Embodiment · SparkEdu" Training Camp at Southeast University, co-hosted by the DAMO Developer Matrix, the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers of Southeast University and Datawhale, was successfully held at the Alibaba Center in Nanjing, drawing a perfect close to the first week of learning and practice. Since its launch, the training camp has attracted more than 100 students to sign up enthusiastically. After a rigorous selection process, 50 outstanding students from 18 different professional directions of the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, as well as the Chien-Shiung Wu College, the College of Future Technology, the College of Automation and other schools, formed interdisciplinary teams to jointly engage in the exploration and practice of embodied intelligence.
The ceremony officially kicked off with the introduction of distinguished guests. Xu Xi, Enterprise Director of the Technology Development and Cooperation Department of Alibaba DAMO Academy, delivered a speech. She affirmed the learning enthusiasm and practical ability demonstrated by Southeast University students in the training camp, and expressed her expectation for more in-depth cooperation between the two sides in cutting-edge technological fields in the future.
The subsequent Demo Day roadshow session pushed the closing ceremony to a climax. Each student team took the stage in turn to present their one-week learning achievements to the jury. The presentations of each team were brilliant, fully reflecting the leap from theory to practice and from code to physical implementation. The students demonstrated innovative applications and solid engineering achievements in robotic arm control, environmental perception, task planning and large model instruction understanding. The review experts raised professional and detailed questions and made comments on each project, creating a lively atmosphere of on-site communication.
After the roadshow and the statistical review, Chen Yang, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean of the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers of Southeast University, made a concluding comment on the event. She pointed out that many students in this training camp have corporate internship experience, and they were able to closely integrate their project design and implementation with actual industrial needs, demonstrating a distinct orientation towards engineering applications. Secretary Chen fully affirmed the students' learning achievements over the past week, and emphasized that through solid practice and team cooperation, the students have effectively reflected the college's training philosophy of "Laying a Solid Foundation, Achieving Interdisciplinary Integration, Striving for Engineering Excellence, and Facing the Future". Finally, she encouraged everyone to transform the gains from the training camp into the ability of continuous learning, so as to calmly cope with complex engineering challenges in the future.
The subsequent award ceremony for outstanding teams saw the attending guests present honorary certificates to the teams that had outstanding performances and achievements in the training camp, in recognition of their excellent performance in technological innovation, engineering implementation and team cooperation.
At the conclusion of the training camp, students shared their gains and reflections from the practice one after another. Students from different colleges talked about their own learning experiences from the perspectives of technical deepening, thinking upgrading and engineering methodology:
Zhang Weijie, a student majoring in Civil Engineering at the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, said the event was extremely interesting. He not only experienced the interaction and functional training with robotic arms, broadened his professional horizons, but also expanded his friendships and met outstanding students from different disciplines. He gained a lot on the whole and looked forward to more such high-quality learning and practical opportunities in the future.
Tang Lixiong, a student majoring in Electronic Information at the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, reviewed the process of building an "intelligent typing robot" from scratch. After solving real problems such as "jitter" and delay, he deeply understood the fundamental engineering principle that "data determines the upper limit and closed loop determines the lower limit", and achieved a valuable upgrade from "open-loop rush" to "closed-loop thinking".
Shen Xinyu, a student majoring in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering at the National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, conducted a ground-up exploration through the "Plant Maintenance System Project". He learned lessons from the early "blind box" style of trial and error, and realized that in embodied intelligence projects, "it is essential to investigate technical logic and equipment capabilities in the early stage, and clarify task objectives and expected effects", so that every step of preparation serves the implementation effect.
This training camp has built an innovative practice platform for close industry-university linkage. The students not only got first-hand experience of the cutting-edge trends of embodied intelligence, but also achieved an upgrade of their abilities in the process of solving real problems. We look forward to all students taking this as a new starting point, bravely exploring in the intelligent era and growing into an outstanding innovative force.
