The Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC), founded in 1989, is a public institution directly affiliated with the Ministry of Natural Resources. It focuses on polar scientific research, as well as polar ecological surveys and assessments. It is responsible for building and operating the national operational service system for polar programs, and conducting international cooperation and exchanges on polar expeditions. It is China’s only specialized center for polar scientific research and expedition support.
Since 2009, Southeast University has partnered with the Purple Mountain Observatory to conduct research on supporting platforms for Antarctic scientific expeditions. By jointly establishing platforms such as the Technical Center for Outstanding Engineers, the University will further strengthen organized research and talent development in collaboration with the Polar Research Institute of China, enabling it to provide more in-depth support for polar scientific research.
