On August 2, the signing ceremony for the Smart City Technical Center for Elite Engineers jointly launched by Southeast University and Nanjing Urban Construction Group was held at Nanjing Urban Construction Group. This marks the first Technical Center for Elite Engineers established through cooperation between Southeast University and state-owned enterprises in Nanjing.
Zhang Xinnian, Executive Deputy Director of the Organization Department of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee; Jin Shi, Vice President of Southeast University and Dean ofthe National Graduate College for Elite Engineers; Gong Chenglin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Nanjing Urban Construction Group; Yin Xiaofeng, General Manager and Deputy Party Secretary of the Group, attended the ceremony.
In his address, Jin Shi stated that, in order to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and instructions concerning Jiangsu’s work, and to accelerate the development of strategic emerging industry clusters, Southeast University and Nanjing Urban Construction Group will continue to explore the establishment of a closely integrated government–industry–academia community of resources, community of scholarship, and community of development. The Smart City Center for Elite Engineers has assembled a national top-tier team of experts and scholars led by academicians. It will inject new momentum into enterprise development and industrial transformation and upgrading, while providing strong intellectual support and professional guidance.
Leveraging the center, the two sides will focus on smart cities to conduct cutting-edge scientific and technological innovation, cultivate outstanding engineering talent, and promote the transformation of technological achievements. He expressed the hope that the center will continuously enhance its competitiveness and influence, and gradually play a model and leading role in the industry.
Gong Chenglin stated that Nanjing Urban Construction Group will take this signing and cooperation as an opportunity to thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, focus on building institutions and mechanisms that support all-round innovation, accelerate transformative development, and advance cooperation with Southeast University in a comprehensive, in-depth, and multi-faceted manner. The Group will promote the “dual improvement” of scientific and technological innovation and talent training, strive to build a “model benchmark” for industry–education integration and university–enterprise joint training among municipal state-owned enterprises, and make greater contributions to the high-quality economic and social development of the city.
Zhang Xinnian noted that the development ofthe National Graduate College for Elite Engineers represents a new model of engineering education in the new era, reflecting talent training oriented toward new quality productive forces and toward the integration of education, science and technology, and talent. Southeast University boasts strong scientific research strength and abundant achievements, and in recent years has been at the forefront of Jiangsu’s universities in university–local and university–enterprise cooperation. As a leading local state-owned enterprise, Nanjing Urban Construction Group has in recent years made early plans and targeted efforts in industrial sectors such as new energy, low-altitude economy, and scenario-based applications, continuously advancing high-quality transformative development. The joint establishment of the “Smart City Technical Center for Elite Engineers” by both sides is a “two-way commitment” and a “strong–strong alliance”. It is expected to play an important role in smart city construction, promote in-depth integration of a renowned city, a prestigious university, and a leading enterprise, drive industrial upgrading and iteration, and continuously elevate the city’s development level.
Subsequently, the official fromthe National Graduate College for Elite Engineers of Southeast University read out the official document for the establishment of the technical center, and the representative from the School of Civil Engineering announced the list of members of the Academic Committee.
Leaders and guests present jointly witnessed the signing ceremony for the Smart City Technical Center for Elite Engineers between Southeast University and Nanjing Urban Construction Group, as well as the signing of cooperation intentions for the first batch of research projects.
It is learned that as one of the first pilot institutions to lead the construction ofthe National Graduate College for Elite Engineers, Southeast University has further deepened the reform of engineering education and strived to build a world-class engineering education system with Chinese characteristics. The launch of the Smart City Technical Center for Elite Engineers will give further impetus to these initiatives.
The event was attended by officials from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, Nanjing State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and other relevant authorities, as well as representatives and professors from the School of Civil Engineering andthe National Graduate College for Elite Engineersof Southeast University, heads of relevant research projects and members of the Academic Committee. Also present were Zhu Ming, Member of the Party Committee of Nanjing Urban Construction Group, and principals of more than a dozen subsidiary groups.
